How to clean a natural gas grill

Most of outdoor cooking lovers own a grill which we often get to use in the summers and spring. In tropical countries, barbeques are often done in the winters as well. Since most people have shifted to using natural gas grills instead of charcoal ones, it is essential to understand how these natural gas grills are cleaned and maintained also which will be discussed in a step by step way below.

Step 1: Starting out

Your gas grill is sure to create a mess thus it is recommended that you spread out some newspapers before you start cleaning your grill. It is highly important that you make sure the gas is turned off from the knobs as well as the source. After this you should use aluminum foil to cover the gas valves so they may stay protected during the rest of the steps. Once done, disassemble all parts of the grill but make sure you know the order and placements of each part.

Step 2: Burners and tubes

Since the gas supply has been turned off, it is time to clean the tubes and burner by detaching the grates and briquettes first. You may wash the tubes with soapy water and wiper the burner with a damp cloth. Use a dry towel and some tooth picks to clan the gas ports.

Step 3: Burn the grease

Since your briquettes become greasy when you use your grill, an easy way to get rid of it is to let it burn for about 15 minutes and then remove the briquettes and grates to easily wipe any excessive grease from inside the grill by using a paper towel.

Step 4: Grill Grates

Since you have cleaned away all excessive grease, now you may let the grill cool down before you clean the grates. Once it has cooled down, remove the grates and scrub them with a long handled bristle brush with soapy water. Dry them with a towel or clean cloth and then replace them back on the grill. Using the brass wired brush will help clean the barriers between the grill and also remove excessive food articles and grease.

Step 5: Washing interior

Since your gas openings are well covered, just use a stiff wired brush to wash any other interior and exterior parts. Wipe the interior of the cooking box with a soapy cloth and nylon scrubber. Similarly, take out the bottom dip pan and wash it with warm soapy water. Rinse both items with clean water and put them all back together.

Step 6: Clean exterior

Simply put, the exterior of your grill can easily be wiped with a towel and cleaning solution. Stainless steel surfaces can be buffed with a grain wire but be careful not to leave any scratches behind. In the end, rinse with clean water and let it dry. If the paint on your grill seems to be wearing out, lightly buff with sand paper and apply heat resistant paint on it. Let it dry properly before you use your grill. If there are any white spots or corrosion marks, use vinegar and water solution with equal quantities of both and wipe the surface with it.

Step 7: Reassemble

As soon as everything dries off, reassemble all the parts back together and store it away somewhere indoors but leave the gas tank unattached yet securely locked. Leave the gas lines covered with foil or put a cloth on them to avoid insects and other residue from going inside.

The performance of your natural gas grill depends on the way you clean and maintain it. If there is residue formed on your grill, it will hinder the distribution of heat thus leaving your meat and food uncooked. Also, maintaining your grill can substantially affect its longevity since investing in a natural gas grill is not easy.
